TallTravelEats goes to some of Boston's BEST (FREE) Tourist Attractions. Things To Do in Boston! Tips & What You Need To Know Before Visiting!
1. USS Constitution Vessel- USS Constitution (Ship) has become a very popular tourist attraction. The vessel is huge and takes you back in historic military time. From the dock, you're able to see cannons and high flags. Visitors are able to walk on and explore the entire vessel. This vessel is still active with the Navy. Everyone was friendly and polite. They answer any questions you have about the vessel or general questions. It's not every day you get to explore a historic vessel up close. It's FREE to visit the USS Constitution Vessel but identification is required.
2. Bunker Hill Monument- Bunker Hill Monument is a very popular tourist destination. A lot of people start or end the Freedom Trail at Bunker Hill Monument. There are 294 steps to climb, if you want to reach the top. It's a lot of steps but Boston scenery is stunning (especially on a beautiful day). For those who don't want to climb Bunker Hill Monument, it has a well maintained lawn surrounding the area. This historic site can become busy during prime months. Bunker Hill Museum is at the base of the monument. This is where you get information and passes to climb. It's FREE to visit and climb Bunker Hill Monument but passes are required (first come, first serve basis).
3.The Skinny House- The Skinny House has become a very popular tourist attraction. It's fascinating seeing such a skinny house sandwiched between two houses. The Skinny House story makes this attractions more interesting because it was built "out of spite". The Skinny House has many different stories of why it was built. According to Wiki, "two brothers inherited land from their deceased father. While one brother was away serving in the military, the other built a large home, leaving the soldier only a shred of property that he felt certain was too tiny to build on. When the soldier returned, he found his inheritance depleted and built the narrow house to spite his brother by blocking the sunlight and ruining his view." The Skinny House is also referred to as "Spite House". It's the narrowest house in Boston, Massachusetts. Recently, the Skinny House was sold for nearly a million dollars. This house is located in a residential area, so parking is hit or miss. Viewing the Skinny House is FREE. *No entry into house*
4. Harvard University Tours (Cambridge, MA)- Surprisingly, Harvard University Tours are one of Boston's top tourist attractions. According to Harvard Crimson, "4.50 percent of applicants to Harvard College received admissions offers to the Class of 2023". Having such a tough admission rate, people use tours as a way to explore campus. Tours have people from all over the world visiting. Most tours last about an hour and gives visitors an overview of campus. Harvard University Tours are very informative and interesting in my opinion. You're taken into a few building and shown different areas on campus like Harvard Yard. Wear comfortable walking shoes and dress according to the weather. Parking can be a hassle around campus during prime class hours. Harvard University Tours are FREE but you must schedule them ahead of time. Harvard University is only 3.4 miles from Boston.
5. The Lawn on D- The Lawn on D is one of Boston's fun event spaces. There are swings, which glow up at night. These swings are huge on social media. Besides cool swings, visitors will find sets of corn hole, ping pong tables, Jenga, and a variety of activities to entertain everyone. The Lawn on D has food and drinks for sale. There are televisions and a covered area if weather isn't cooperating. Admission is FREE into The Lawn on D unless there's a special event taking place.
6. Samuel Adams Brewery Tour- Samuel Adams is a Boston staple. Tours give guests a behind the scenes look at Samuel Adams brewery. Visitors are able to touch hops and other different ingredients which go into the beer making process. Also, you're taken into a tasting room, where FREE samples of beer and mini souvenir glasses are given out (Must be 21+ to do a tasting). This tour is hands on and very informative. Admission for Samuel Adams Brewery Tour is FREE. Whether you're a beer snob or not, Samuel Adams Brewery Tour is a cool attraction to check out while visiting Boston.
